Chief Architect at Microsoft Healthcare
Josh Mandel, MD, is a physician and software developer working to fuel an ecosystem of health apps with access to clinical and research data. As Chief Architect for Microsoft Healthcare, Chief Architect for SMART Health IT, and Instructor at the Harvard Medical School Department of Biomedical Informatics, Josh works closely with the standards development community to lay the groundwork for frictionless data access, authorization, analytics, and app integration. He led the development of the SMART specification and launched the Clinical Decision Support Hooks project. As a member of the National Health IT Standards Committee, Josh showed a special interest in tools and interfaces that support software developers who are new to the health domain.

Currently, he is one of the ideologists of the development of regional information systems for healthcare in St. Petersburg. In 2016, he decided to use the FHIR standard for a regional laboratory data exchange system. The system became the first major project in Russia that used FHIR. As a result of this project, more than 100 million lab tests are transmitted every year. The technology has been implemented in 7 regions of Russia.

She is working for one of the largest vendors of integration engines for hospitals and a company providing training and solutions to integrate FHIR with legacy systems. She has been involved in developing and testing V2 to FHIR mappings for several years and has held many FHIR training courses in Germany and abroad.
